Katherine Ryan on staying in George Best's childhood home in Belfast

Top comedian Katherine Ryan has spoken about the "crazy" and "fun" time she stayed in George Best's childhood home in Belfast.

The Canadian star revealed she had slept in the football legend's East Belfast home during a stay in the city while chatting on her popular podcast Katherine Ryan: Telling Everybody Everything.

The mum-of-three was telling listeners about her recent visit to Canada with husband Bobby K for his birthday celebrations when she digressed to tell them about her experience in George Best's old home.

The comedian, who brought her live show Missus to Belfast's Ulster Hall in May last year, was telling fans about her own mum turning their home into an Airbnb before she explained about her experience in Belfast.

"We decided not to stay at a hotel, we decided to stay with my mum, which is something I stopped doing when she opened her home up to strangers," she said.

"My mum started having an Airbnb just in our home and I think I already told you about the time I flew home and there was an entire Brazilian family in her basement, like a mum a dad and three kids, and I was like, 'Excuse me, ma'am, I am on television, I am not sleeping here'. Then I went to the Four Seasons.

"I don't like when anyone is around me let alone actual strangers who have paid to sleep in my childhood bedroom.

"Which is a thing, I slept in the childhood bedroom of, who was it, it's like a football person, wait it will come to me, he has a really sexy son, Calum Best is the son, George Best. I slept in his childhood bedroom in Belfast, if you want I think it's like £71 a night. You can Airbnb George Best's family home which has been kept exactly the same as it was when he grew up there.

"No listener of my podcast wants to sleep in George Best's childhood room but maybe your significant other or dad does, maybe there is a stag do coming up and you want to send them to Belfast and they want to sleep in George Best's house.

"It's like a museum to him with all his books and when you go around the house there are different audio things. So you go into the kitchen and his sister will come on and be like, 'Hi, this is where George Best used to eat beans on toast', it is crazy but it was fun."

The house on Burren Way, where George grew up and his father Dickie lived until his passing, was taken over by the EastSide Partnership in 2011 and transformed in order to show what it would have looked like when the young footballer was still living there.

Each room has been fitted with retro furniture, 1960s style wall-paper and pictures depicting the life of one of Belfast's most beloved sons.

The EastSide Partnership have been running it as self-catering accommodation on Airbnb. You can find out more here.
