Comedian Katherine Ryan has hit out, explaining that people often snub comedy at award shows such as the Oscar Academy Awards.
The star who is no stranger to having people in fits of laughter with her quick wit and sense of humour explained that while she enjoys sitting down to watch movies, she hoped comedy could be widely recognised.
However, Katherine, 39, admits she finds Oscar season difficult as she doesn't like to be "moved" by films and believes that the Academy recognises powerful films.
Speaking candidly to The Mirror, Kathrine revealed she'd rather tune into a "bad film" and hasn't seen a "good" film in several years.
"I don't like good films because good films usually make you feel sad at some point," she said, before adding: "And I don't like to be moved and this is why Oscar season is difficult for me.
"I don't ever know what's going on – I like fun, I just love comedies like Trainwreck and Bridesmaids.
"My favourite film when I was a kid was Now And Then which is about the coming of age of a bunch of teenage girls but Rosie O'Donnell is in it, Demi Moore is in it and Christina Ricci."
The mum-of-three continued: "I think that I'm missing the B movie, the rom-com, female lead movie – How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days.
"Those are the movies that I love and unfortunately, I haven't really seen a good comedy film in a long time.
"We don't get nominated for Oscars, there's no comedy category at the Oscars."
The star who recently partnered up with meal kit company Gousto continued: "People are snobby about comedy, sometimes they don't feel it's true art.
"But I think it's harder to be funny than it is to be dramatic.
"Harry Styles can do it all, he's one of them."
This year, the likes of Austin Butler, Ana de Armas, Paul Mescal and Angela Bassett are all nominated for awards for their outstanding work over the past year.
The event which will be held at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles will see names from all across the globe for the star-studded ceremony.
While some movie stars will be watching the event and attending a red-carpet gala at the nearby Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel at their Blossom Ballroom – where the first-ever Academy Awards were held.
