Katherine Jenkins recalls 'intimate' performance for the Queen who watched from armchair

Katherine Jenkins has recalled her 'favourite' performance for the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The Welsh singer reminisced about the time she sung for the late Head of State in an incredibly intimate setting - with just 10 people present as the 42-year-old performed with Britain's longest serving monarch watching on from her armchair during the small gathering.

Katherine first becoming a household name in 2003 when she sang at Westminster Cathedral in honour of Pope John Paul II's silver jubilee. The singer went on to perform for the Royal Family multiple times over the years - including at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.

The singer - who was appointed an O.B.E in the 2014 New Year Honours - appeared on the ITV News Special today [September 16], ahead of King Charles III's highly-antipcated trip to Cardiff, Wales - his first since becoming King following the passing of his mother Queen Elizabeth II.

Katherine explained on the special broadcast how it was 'really important for the people of Wales' to meet the new Head of State, and recalled the moment she discovered her rendition of God Save the King would be played on the BBC following the death of the Queen last week.

"It was very emotional," the singer admitted before explaining how she was in a 'little church in rural Sussex' when she got the call from the BBC.

She went on to reveal how she and fellow church goers stopped what they were doing to hold a minute's silence for the late monarch and the new Head of State, before she performed her rendition for God Save the King for those gathered in the church.

Katherine was then asked if she have a favourite memory of performing for the Queen prior to her death - with the singer admitting an intimate setting was where her most treasured performance took place.

"I sang to her in some very intimate situations," the singer confessed. "One that stands out was [the time] there was just 10 of us in a sitting room and with that... it's just kind of different than when there are thousands of people there but when you're in a very small situation, and she's just sat there in her armchair, it's quite surreal."

She went on to add: "I think that's the most nervous I've ever been."

This Morning and Loose Women were pulled from ITV's schedule today in favour of the three and a half-hour ITV News special on the King's Tour.

Good Morning Britain and Lorraine aired as normal this morning, but ITV shook up their programming once again as the channel continues to cover the death of Queen Elizabeth II, her upcoming funeral and King Charles III accession to the throne and his new duties.

On this week's final edition of Good Morning Britain, ITV viewers spotted a possible tribute to the late Queen from presenter Kate Garraway as she hosted the show in a black ensemble teamed with a pearl necklace - a piece of jewellery that was much-loved by Britain's longest serving monarch during her time on the throne.

Before handing things over to Lorraine Kelly, Kate shared an amusing anecdote involving King Charles III with viewers - as recalled the time she met the new Head of State after suffering a major wardrobe malfunction and not feeling her best, as the ITV show drew to a close this morning.

"The last Prince's Trust event ceremony was a very thundery day," Kate began telling viewers. "I got soaking wet and smelt like a wet dog," the presenter added when recalling one of her meetings with the new Head of State in the past.

As her co-host Ben Shephard looked on smiling, Kate continued to say: "I said to him - not knowing he was going to be the King - 'I'm so sorry I smell like a wet dog' [to which he replied] 'Oh I hadn't noticed'

"There was then a massive thunder clap and do you think that was the premonition of things to come?" Kate laughed. "It was like he was Thor, never mind King, that day."
