Kate Winslet Reveals Dislike For Robert Downey Jr.'S Accent

Kate Winslet

Robert Downey Jr. recently shared details about his audition for Nancy Meyers' film 'The Holiday,' where Kate Winslet criticized his accent work. Winslet, during a recent appearance on 'The Tonight Show,' admitted to disliking Downey Jr.'s portrayal of the character eventually played by Jude Law. She recalled the audition, mentioning Downey Jr.'s attempt at an English accent that she mistook for Australian. Despite Jimmy Fallon's praise, Winslet found the accent subpar.

Downey Jr. had revealed on 'The Howard Stern Show' that he knew Law was the favorite for the role but felt confident in his chances. However, Winslet's critique left him feeling defeated. 'The Holiday,' released in 2006, starred Winslet and Cameron Diaz as leads in a romantic-comedy that resonated with audiences, grossing $63 million domestically and $205 million worldwide.

Winslet expressed surprise at the film's enduring popularity, especially during the holiday season, where fans often approach her to share their tradition of watching 'The Holiday.' Despite rumors of a sequel, both Meyers and Winslet denied any plans for a follow-up. Winslet clarified that no discussions had taken place regarding a potential sequel.
