The Duchess of Cambridge made a little girl's princess dreams come true by dressing in pink to meet her. In the run up to engagements, Kate is often advised on what to wear by professional stylists, but allowed a five-year-old to consult her on a very special occasion last year.
Mila Sneddon, a five-year-old girl undergoing chemotherapy for leukaemia, had one wish: she wanted to see a real-life princess wearing her favourite colour - pink. Kate, who has become a style icon for women and young girls alike since joining the Royal Family, invited young Mila to the Queen's home in Edinburgh in May 2021.
Speaking to Mila over the phone before they met, Kate promised her that she would wear pink to meet her in Scotland, CambridgeshireLive reports. When the special day arrived, Mila and Kate were matching in their pink dresses, with Kate wearing a hot pink number and Mila wearing a baby pink dress when they met at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

A photograph Mila kissing her dad through a pane of glass became a symbol of isolation during the first lockdown, and was featured in a community exhibition by the National Portrait Gallery called 'Hold Still', which was led by the Duchess herself. Scott, Mila's father, had been isolating from his little girl, who was only four months into her chemotherapy journey at the time, and was finally able to go back home after seven weeks.
The Duchess of Cambridge was delighted to meet Mila. She told her: "I want to give you a big squeezy cuddle, it's so nice to meet you in person. I love your dress, can you do a little twirl - and your shoes."
After meeting Kate, Mila told ITV that she and the Duchess were 'best friends'. Mila was just four years old when she was diagnosed with leukaemia in November 2019 but, thankfully, in April 2022, she was allowed to ring the bell at the Team Jack Cancer Centre to let everybody know she was finally cancer free.
To congratulate Mila, Kate sent the young girl a sweet letter. Mila's mother Lynda took to social media to say it was "a beautiful keepsake for Mila to look back on for many years to come (content of which will not be disclosed) such a lovely gesture thank you Catherine Duchess of Cambridge."
