It may have been a grand wedding with almost 2,000 guests packed into Westminster Abbey for the service, but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge managed to make the historical day a very personal one.
Kate had her sister Pippa as her maid of honour while Prince William chose his younger brother Prince Harry as his best man.
Harry kept up best man tradition by giving a speech at the wedding reception - and according to many of the guests it was the highlight of the big day, even if he did make Kate cry.
Royal author Katie Nicholl gave an insight into the tear-jerking speech in her biography Harry: Life, Loss, and Love.
She said: "It was affectionate, warm and funny and touched William deeply.
"The speech was peppered with Harry's classic sense of humour, and he ribbed his brother: 'William didn't have a romantic bone in his body before he met Kate, so I knew it was serious when William suddenly started cooing down the phone at Kate'.
"Famous for his mimicry, Harry then impersonated his brother calling Kate 'Babykins', to much laughter from the guests.

"When he said the couple’s decade-long romance was his inspiration, there was a shy smile from Chelsy, while Kate shed a tear."
Kate and brother-in-law Harry previously had a jovial relationship - he even famously described Kate as the "sister he never had" and the pair were often seen giggling or sharing a joke at royal events.
But according to royal expert Duncan Larcombe, Harry and Kate's sibling-like relationship is now "long in the past".
It comes amid a growing feud between William and Harry and the fact that Harry and wife Meghan Markle decided to quit as royals and leave the UK for California.
And speaking earlier this year as Kate approached her 40th birthday, Duncan told OK! : "Kate was, as Harry said, the sister he never had and clearly that is not the case anymore.
"There was a time when Harry would have been instrumental in any celebrations or any fun that the couple were having, but those days are long in the past."
