Kate Middleton sends Meghan 'painful' message in Remembrance Sunday photo, expert says

Kate Middleton's fashion choice for Remembrance Sunday sent a "painful" message to Meghan Markle, a royal expert has claimed.

The Princess of Wales joined fellow royals at the annual Remembrance Day Service at The Cenotaph last Sunday including Queen Consort Camilla.

Royal commentator Daniela Elser said the Duchess of Cornwall shared a subtle but "painful" message to the Duchess of Sussex.

And while the occasion was spent remembering those who lost their lives in the World Wars, the Princess of Wales also shared a subtle but "painful" message to Meghan Markle, according to royal commentator Daniela Elser.

Kate wore a Bahrain pearl and diamond drop earrings, which she received from the late Queen Elizabeth II, along with a four-row pearl and diamond choker necklace.

Ms Elser wrote in news.au that the last time Kate wore this particular combination of jewels was at the Queen's funeral in September, and that Meghan wore a similar pair of earrings that had been given to her by Her Majesty.

She wrote: "Look at images of the royal WAGs side-by-side and the vast discrepancy is obvious.

"While Kate’s pair are honking great pieces that on anyone else you would assume are plastic fakes they are so large, Meghan’s pair, while elegant and a very thoughtful gift from the late nonagenarian, are comparatively tiddly."

She added: "In this case, size does matter. There is also the question of their history and significance."

Elser says the only other royal to be allowed to borrow the same jewels Kate wore was Princess Diana.

Meghan's earrings were given to the Duchess of Sussex by Her Majesty in 2018 during a joint engagement.

The Remembrance Sunday service was the first since the death of the Queen.

Kate and Camila stood on the balcony of the Foreign Office, overlooking the Cenotaph, where wreaths were laid by the royals to honour the nation's war dead.

They both wore elegant black coats and hats and each had three poppies pinned to them as well as diamond brooches.

Kate wore earrings that once belonged to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana and at one point looked close to tears as she watched proceedings. Camilla wore the same black hat she wore to the Queen's funeral in September.
