Kate Middleton's subtle tribute to Queen at Eurovision as she sends message to Liverpool

Kate Middleton gave a subtle gesture to the Queen as she showcased her incredible piano skills in an unexpected Eurovision appearance.

The Princess of Wales sat down at the keys wearing an exquisite blue Jenny Packham dress and jewellery which belonged to the late Queen.

Looking magnificent in blue, she wore her hair down in loose curls to finish her effortless look as she beamed from behind the piano.

Kate, 41, has a history of outstanding outfit repeats from christening clothes that she had made for her children to repeating coats that she is rumoured to have designed herself.

On Saturday she wowed again, this time a dazzling royal blue gown and a pair of earrings once worn by Queen Elizabeth II.

Kate Middleton took part in the opening sequence film for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 (Alex Bramall)

The 10 second clip was recorded in the Crimson Drawing Room of Windsor Castle, the former home of her grandmother-in-law.

Her late Majesty's earrings sparkled under the spotlight as Kate beamed from behind the piano as a personal tribute to her grandmother-in-law.

Fans were stunned as Kate performed just minutes into the Eurovision programme in a pre-recorded clip as part of tonight's finale.

The princess looked stunning as she joined a slew of performers for the opening film.

It has last year's champions, Kalush Orchestra, performing their winning entry, Stefania, from the Maidan Nezalezhnosti metro station in the heart of Kyiv, Ukraine.

The group are also joined from the UK by a number of British icons, including Princess Kate, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sam Ryder, Ms Banks, Ballet Black, Bolt Strings and Joss Stone.

The Princess’ contribution to the film involved a short, instrumental piano performance, created by Joe Price and Kojo Samuel, and was recorded earlier this month.

Fans were delighted at her surprise appearance and took to Twitter, with one commenting: "Sorry - was that Kate Middleton looking glorious playing the piano on@Eurovision?"

Another wrote: "KATE MIDDLETON AND ANDRE LLOYD WEBBER IN THE STEFANIA INTRO???? ALREADY CHAOS I'M LOVING IT."

A third added: "OMG a Kalush Orchestra and Sam Ryder mashup!!!! AND KATE MIDDLETON PLAYING PIANO?! WHAT???"

Eurovision was not the first time the public were treated to a performance by Kate, who has played the piano since she was a child and took comfort in it during the Covid lockdowns.

In December 2021, she surprised fans with a beautiful piano performance at her Christmas carol concert.

The royal joined singer Tom Walker for a performance of his song For Those Who Can't Be Here at her Royal Carols: Together at Christmas event.
