Kate Middleton's secret style trick that helps her be 'more approachable'

Kate Middleton’s choice of wearing a polka dot outfit is a clever way to appear more “approachable”, claims a style expert.

The Princess of Wales looked dazzling as she proudly supported King Charles, Queen Camilla and Prince William at Garter Day this month wearing the eye-catching dress.

The Garter procession to St George’s Chapel is one of the most colourful events in the royal calendar where grand velvet robes and plumed hats are worn.

Taking part in the procession alongside William, the King and Queen today were Princess Anne, Prince Edward and the other Knights and Ladies of the Garter.

Watching from the sidelines, Kate donned a polka dot dress by Alessandra Rich and a black and white hat by Philip Treacy.

She also wore a navy-tiered midi dress with smart white dots and a bow-detail neckline this week.

And style expert Susie Nelson, founder of Modes and More Vintage told the Express that it is an “approachable and playful design”.

When it comes to her choice of outfits, Kate is often careful to pay tribute to a cause, or people held dear to her.

And even when it seems as though fashion is the focus of what she is wearing, Kate also makes strong statements with the colours, styles and designs.

Susie said: "Polka dots are a youthful, approachable and playful design. They can make an elegant and sophisticated style more relatable and are quite easy for high-street designers to produce.

"Princess Diana and the late Queen Elizabeth II were fans of polka dots, and they are also worn by Princess Beatrice.

"Some say a polka dot has the form of the sun, which is a symbol of the energy of the whole world and living life. The circle has balance and is also the form of the moon, which is thought of as calm. They have also been used in art, most frequently by Yayoi Kusama and Bridget Riley."

But while there maybe a lot of significance behind the choice of the outfit, it is also possible that Kate has chosen the patterned dresses for practical use as well.

In the past, she was seen wearing similar styles when taking her children to school and for Royal Ascot 2022.

Ms Nelson added: "Kate is very fond of the design and they make her appear more approachable and youthful. They are easy to accessorise and not so busy that they take over or smother the design of the dress or item of clothing."
