Kate Middleton's mum and sister 'banned' from royal box at Wimbledon after mistake

As Wimbledon gets underway this week, plenty of famous faces - some royal - will be seen in the crowd as the world's best tennis players go head to head.

Kate Middleton will no doubt be on her way to the tournament this week given she is a royal patron of the All England Club, reports the Mirror. The Princess of Wales is a keen fan of tennis, and is known to be good pals with infamous athlete, Roger Federer.

However, it isn't just Kate who is a tennis nerd - as her mum and dad, Carole and Michael, are often spotted at Wimbledon, alongside her sister, Pippa Middleton.

And when the Princess of Wales heads to Wimbledon, she is offered the best seats in the house in the royal box - which her family are also invited to often.

One year was a different story, however, as it seemed that Kate's mum and sister were stopped from getting seated in the royal box - and it was all down to a glitch.

Back in 2017, Carole and Pippa were relegated to mere standard seats for Scottish athlete Andy Murray's fourth-round tie against Benoit Paire.

According to Hello!, the pair arrived too late for the match-up, and All England Club's strict rules mean that latecomers are banned from entering the box.

It didn't seem to dampen the pair's spirits, as they cheered Murray on to that year's quarter-finals in straight sets.

However, this isn't the only time the Middleton family were in bother at Wimbledon, as Kate revealed she was once left "mortified" at an embarrassing mix-up that included her dad.

The duchess revealed the cringeworthy story in a 2017 BBC documentary called Our Wimbledon, presented by sports host Sue Barker.

Kate said her dad tried to be cool and collected when meeting former British number one tennis player Tim Henman.

She explained: "My father is not going to appreciate this, but we were walking past Tim Henman and we had just seen [Pete] Sampras play.

"My dad said very coolly: 'Hi Pete'. I was mortified!"

In 2022, Prince William and Kate attended Wimbledon together with her parents - who she was spotted blowing kisses to in the crowd.

The Prince and Princess of Wales weren't seated next to Kate's parents, but this didn't stop her from clocking them in their seats and blowing them a kiss.
