The Princess of Wales finally allowed royal fans a full look at her dazzling Coronation dress in the official portraits of the big day.
When she arrived at Westminster Abbey for King Charles and Queen Camilla's crowning, Kate's Alexander McQueen gown was largely covered by her formal robe - the Royal Victorian Order mantle.
She continued to wear the robe during the royals' appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony, but ditched it for the official Coronation photo, which was snapped later that day.
However, eagle-eyed royal fans noticed that the V-shaped neckline of the dress in the official photo was seemingly different to when Kate was at the Abbey when it appeared to be a round neck.
It led to speculation online that the princess may have even had two dresses made - despite the embroidery on the skirt remaining the same.
However, the mystery of the neckline of the dress has appeared to have been explained - and it seems it could have all been down to a separate garment.
According to Alastair Bruce, the Sky News commentator and royal expert, Kate wore an additional cape over the top of the dress in order to protect it from the heavy mantle and chains she was required to wear over the top.
He explained on Twitter: "Additional temporary cape to compliment mantle, collar and protect dress from wire woven fastening cords, with heavy swagged knots."
Meanwhile, another royal fan on Twitter managed to spot the appearance of a possible cape worn underneath the robe as Kate walked into the Abbey with her husband Prince William.
It then appears that for the official Coronation photos, Kate removed the cape, revealing the intricate V-shaped neckline, which showed off the stunning George VI Festoon necklace, which was a gift to the late Queen Elizabeth in 1950.
The McQueen dress was created from ivory silk crepe with silver bullion and threadwork embroidery featuring rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs, representing the four nations.
Her look was completed with a Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen headpiece with silver bullion, crystal and silver threadwork three-dimensional leaf embroidery.
Yesterday, Kate was straight back to work after the Coronation weekend as she and William hosted a Buckingham Palace garden party alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh.
Eight thousand people were welcomed into the grounds for the event, which celebrated the work of volunteers, military personnel and members of the public.
Kate re-wore a light blue Ellie Saab skirt and matching top that she previously wore to the Royal Ascot four years ago. Sophie also looked sensational in the same colour as their husbands put on a stylish display in waistcoated suits.
