Kate Middleton's brother cancels wedding anniversary because it 'doesn't feel right'

James Middleton won't be celebrating his first wedding anniversary as a mark of respect to Queen Elizabeth II.

The Princess of Wales' brother paid tribute to the late monarch following her death on Friday, and said the sad event had cast a shadow over anniversary plans he and wife Alizée Thevenet had made.

The 35-year-old posted the tribute on Instagram along with a photo of then Princess Elizabeth and Philip Mountbatten on their wedding day in 1947.

James wrote: "Today is our first wedding anniversary. However it doesn’t seem right to celebrate while mourning the loss of Queen Elizabeth II.

'"Instead I’m sharing a photo of the marriage of the Queen & the Duke of Edinburgh on their wedding 74 years ago.

"To my darling Alizee I look forward to sharing as many with you in our lifetime."

On Thursday, James, who met the Queen multiple times at family events including the christening of Prince George, published another tribute to Her Majesty.

"Queen Elizabeth II, the epitome of steady grace, resolve and reassurance," he wrote.

"Our constant in a world of change. Thank you for a lifetime of service and leadership."

Kate Middleton and Prince William were among well-wishers at James and Alizee's wedding in September 2021 at a town hall in Bormes-les-Mimosas, Provence.

Following the news of the Queen's death, British life has been disrupted significantly as scheduled events are cancelled in a mark of respect.

This weekend Premier League football matches were called off as the official seven-day period of national mourning began.

A statement from the Premier League confirmed: “At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.”

The British Horseracing Authority also suspended all events for two days, while the Tour of Britain cycling event was called off this weekend.

On Thursday, just an hour after the Queen's death was announced, the Mercury Prize was postponed.

The BBC cancelled the remaining Last Night Of The Proms, which was due to take place on Saturday evening.
