Kate Middleton poised to don tiara as King Charles prepares for important first event

The Princess of Wales could be set to wear a tiara for the first time in several years after the announcement of an upcoming royal event.

It has been confirmed that King Charles will host his first state visit as monarch in November when he will welcome the President and First Lady of South Africa. The itinerary for President Cyril Ramaphosa and his wife Tshepo Motsepe has yet to be released - however, nearly all state visits to the UK feature a state dinner, where royals often wear some of the most beautiful jewels, including tiaras. This means that if a state dinner is planned for the couple, Kate, as well as Queen Consort Camilla, will likely wear stunning headpieces.

The last state visit to the UK was in 2019 when then US president Donald Trump visited the country with former first lady Melania Trump.

At the state dinner during that visit, Kate wore the gorgeous Lover's Knot tiara with a gown by Alexander McQueen.

She last publicly wore a tiara several months later in December 2019 for the annual diplomatic reception at Buckingham Palace, which has been cancelled for the past two years due to the Covid pandemic.

Again it was the lover's knot tiara, which she paired with another Alexander McQueen dress.

Meanwhile, it is understood the South African state visit was in the early stages of being planned before the Queen's death in September.

The King has visited South Africa on several occasions since his first tour of the country, which included Pretoria, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, in 1997.

His last trip was in 2011, when along with the Queen Consort, then the Duchess of Cornwall, he carried out engagements including a speech on climate change at the University of Cape Town and a visit to the Black Rhino Range expansion project in Phinda Game Reserve.

They also attended the Nelson Mandela Foundation, where they were received by Graca Machel, the former president's widow.

Charles was also present at Mr Mandela's funeral, which took place in 2013, remarking the world would be a "poorer place without him" and that he was owed "an enormous debt of gratitude for what he’s managed to achieve with his life".

The King and the Queen Consort, then the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, also welcomed President Jacob Zuma at the start of a state visit in the UK in 2010.

Mr Ramaphosa's visit will take place from Tuesday, November 22 to Thursday, November 24 and he will be hosted by the King and Queen Consort at Buckingham Palace.
