Kate Middleton Appointed Royal Companion Of The Order Of The Companions Of Honour

Britain's Kate, the Princess of Wales, Patron of The Forward Trust visits HMP High Down in Sutton, England, Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, to learn about how the charity is supporting those in the criminal

King Charles III has bestowed a new historic title upon his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton. The British monarch recently appointed the Princess of Wales as a Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour, marking her as the first royal family member to receive this prestigious honor. Established by King George V in 1917, the Order of the Companions of Honour recognizes achievements in various fields such as art, science, medicine, and public service. With only 65 current members, including notable figures like Elton John, Paul McCartney, and J.K. Rowling, this appointment is considered one of the most distinguished royal recognitions.

During a ceremony at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, King Charles III also appointed his eldest son, Prince William, as the Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath. This order, previously held by Charles during his time as the Prince of Wales, has a lineage that includes predecessors like Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, and Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn.

Additionally, Queen Camilla, the king’s wife, was appointed as the Grand Master and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, a position previously held by Prince Philip until his passing in 2021. These appointments reflect the royal family’s commitment to upholding traditions and recognizing outstanding contributions.

The appointment of Middleton to the Order of the Companions of Honour is seen as a gesture of support from King Charles III, particularly as both the monarch and the princess are currently battling cancer. Known for their close relationship, the king and Middleton share a mutual appreciation for art and culture, which has strengthened their bond over the years. Their shared experience with cancer has further deepened their connection, providing them with reassurance and comfort during this challenging time.

In February, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III had been diagnosed with a form of cancer and was undergoing treatment. Subsequent tests revealed additional health concerns related to a benign prostate enlargement procedure. Middleton also disclosed in a video shared in March that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy treatment for cancer, highlighting the strength and resilience of the royal family in the face of adversity.
