Kate Humble: Springwatch host tells litterbugs to 'stay on your sofa' in sweary rant

National treasure Kate Humble, who lives just over the River Severn in Wye Valley has taken to Instagram to post a lengthy rant about a litterbug.

In the post the Animal Park and Springwatch host posted a photograph of a bright yellow food wrapper lying on the floor of her local woods. Calling out the litterbug for being "selfish" and "endangering the creatures in the woods, Kate shared the following message with her 67,100 followers.

She wrote: "I don’t like using social media to rant or as a platform for negativity (there are quite enough of those) but to the selfish f****r who walked in our local woods today & thought it was acceptable to leave their litter behind, it’s not. Ever.

"Not only does it defile a place that presumably you’ve come to because it is beautiful, ruining it for everyone else, more importantly you are endangering the creatures which depend on these woods for survival. And if you are really too feeble to carry your litter home, stay on your sofa & chuck your litter about in your own living room. Shame on you.

"Rant over. #sorry everyone."

In the comments, some of her followers certainly agreed with her message, which received almost 7,000 likes. One Instagram user, fitting called 'forestgal' wrote: "It's the height of selfishness. I'm always picking up other people's litter as I can't bear to see it.

"People who litter don't deserve to enjoy beautiful spaces. Harsh but true. It can't truly mean much to them if they treat the place with such disrespect."

But others, like 'trendy_nana' didn't think it was worth a lengthy (and sweary) post, writing: "That could have been an accident and just fell out of their pocket .... its one wrapper just bin it .... a whole picnic I may have understood... really didn't need the language or time wasted on it."
