Kate Hudson's vintage bedroom aesthetic will have a welcome revival in 2024, say experts

Kate Hudson.

Vintage-inspired design is about creating inviting, characterful spaces that take their cues from the past and mix old with new. American actress, Kate Hudson's vintage-themed bedroom is the perfect example of this nostalgic aesthetic, but there is a key to getting it right.

Decorating with vintage has seen a resurgence in recent years, not only for its charming aesthetic but also as a highly sustainable way to furnish your home. An increased backlash against mass production has fuelled this interior design trend and while people often come to vintage from an environmental standpoint, they stay for the character that antique and reclaimed furniture and accessories bring into their vintage bedrooms

However, the bedroom must also be a functional space for sleep, so you'll need to be mindful of overcrowding this room with too many unnecessary objects and accessories. Happily, there are many ways to channel vintage style without compromising on practicalities – from adding in chintzy fabrics through curtains and blinds to fitting tongue-and-groove wall paneling. Including plenty of patterns through wallpaper, tiles, fabric, and accessories will bring softness and a homey feel associated with vintage bedrooms.

Creating the perfect vintage bedroom is about uniting two worlds: the beauty of the past and the practicality of the present day. A vital step to achieving the look is longevity, soul, and patience to see things evolving.

Decorating with neutrals, dusky tones, and colors with natural pigments will set the scene for a laid-back look and allow original features to shine, while dark colors and bold prints will add period drama and sophistication.

To create a unique look that is more affordable and sustainable, introduce vintage furniture and accessories – search flea markets and reclamation yards for items to upcycle. You could also consider investing in a reclaimed chest of drawers, bed frame, or bedside table, but be sure to buy from a reputable dealer and thoroughly check for any damage.

Finally, don’t forget to give your bedroom lighting the vintage treatment. From decorative, antique wall lights to bedroom chandelier ideas – opt for antique finishes in brass or nickel rather than shiny modern chrome.
