Kate Garraway talks new role away from ITV Good Morning Britain

Viewers are set to see Kate Garraway take on a new TV role away from Good Morning Britain.

The presenter will be back on screens tonight (Thursday) for Kate Garraway's Life Stories.

The 54-year-old is taking over the ITV show from Piers Morgan who quit after 12 years last year after taking up a new job.

The former GMB host announced the move in October and came after the journalist announced that he is to join News Corp and Fox News Media in a deal which will see him host a new global TV show.

Kate was Piers' final guest on the programme as she sat down for an emotional chat with her former ITV co-star and friend.

Appearing on GMB on Thursday morning alongside Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid, Kate was asked about the show.

"Tonight at nine o’clock it is Kate Garraway’s Life Stories," Susanna announced.

"Very excited about it," Ben added as Kate herself admitted: "It still sounds so weird."

"It sounds so right," Ben encouragingly replied.

"You, of course, did the interview that marked the end of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories and then he handed over the baton," Susanna commented.

But Kate joked: "Handed or I grabbed whichever way you look at it."

Susanna continued: "And now tonight you have someone different in the interview seat so who is the guest to launch the show?"

The Smooth Radio host then revealed her first guest is football legend, John Barnes.

"What an extraordinary life to tell a story on a great person to start with," she said.

"Extraordinary footballing career and extraordinary life generally."

Ben then revealed: "Absolute hero of mine John when he was playing at Watford and Liverpool, particularly, when I was a kid.

"I got to play with him in a couple of the celebrity matches as well.

"He’s an extraordinary person to be around, that energy, but what he went through and experienced was remarkable."

It has already been announced that Kate will also interview Welsh singer Charlotte Church for the programme as well as former Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain.

Kate's latest TV role comes after the presenter was made an MBE in the New Year Honours for her services to broadcasting, journalism, and charity.
