Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway has received a message of support from singer Peter Andre after her husband Derek Draper took an "unexpected and frightening turn for the worse". The former political advisor, from Chorley, was rushed back to hospital last month after coming down with "severe life threatening sepsis" and developing a serious kidney infection.
As reported by LancsLive, the mum-of-two was on air when she found out that he had taken a bad turn and took a three-week absence from her TV and radio duties. It comes after Derek, 54, had been left battling long term health conditions after testing positive for coronavirus back in March 2020.
Kate, 55, returned to GMB last week and praised the hospital staff who treated Derek while he was in ICU. Speaking in his OK! Magazine column this week, Peter, 49, said: "I am sending my best wishes to Kate Garraway after she revealed her husband Derek Draper nearly died of sepsis.

"I’ve known Kate for a while and she is one of the kindest and loveliest people you will ever come across. It still frustrates me so much when I think about all the people who said Covid wasn’t real when you see what has happened to Derek."
Last week Kate explained how she found out Derek needed urgent care, as she said: "I got a phone call from the person who was looking after him saying, 'right, we're really worried'. I whizzed home and it just sort of went boom from there. We called an ambulance, went to A&E, where they said he had very severe sepsis, life-threatening sepsis. So it was really dramatic."
Smooth Radio host Kate went on to explain what the problem was, as she said: "His blood pressure was so low. A really junior doctor said 'what did you think it might be?'
"He knew it wasn't Covid-19 because we tested before we left the hospital on the Thursday. I said 'Well I did wonder if it was a urine infection, but weirdly we couldn't get anything for a sample.' And they just went, 'kidneys'.
"Unfortunately, his kidneys were really badly infected, blocked. The challenge now is to save them. So that's where we've been for the last three weeks."
Derek is now out of intensive care but is still in hospital recovering. Kate, who has juggled caring for Derek with working and looking after their two children, Darcey, 16, and Billy, 12, said: "One kidney is looking really good, just need to look at the other one. Still in high dependency."
