Kate Garraway shares daughter's savage response to birthday gift as her 'baby' turns 17

Kate Garraway has shared her daughter's cheeky - and slightly savage - response to her mum over her birthday gift as she turns 17. The presenter gave a shout-out to her 'baby' on her special day while appearing on Good Morning Britain on Friday (March 10).

Kate, 55, was back at the helm of the ITV news programme alongside Ben Shephard and, after discussing some of the latest news headlines, including reaction to reports that former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has put his father, Stanley, forward for a Knighthood, the TV and radio star turned attentions to her own family.

"It's my baby daughter's 17th birthday," Kate said to a cue of 'awws' from Ben and their guests. "Her present was supposed to be driving lessons which I've found quite hard to lock down. There's a lot of delays and hard to get hold of it," the mum-of-two went on the explain.

"So I did suggest to her last night, 'Darcey, if it comes to it, I might have to teach you how to drive,'" Kate added to gasps from those around her. Iain Dale said: "No, no. It's madness." Kate then revealed: "Well her response was, 'Mum, someone in this family needs to know how to park!'"

"So that's what happens... she's certainly not going to be putting my forward for the honours list," Kate added as Ben joked: "She's so, so wise in so many ways. Happy Birthday, Darcey." Kate then added: "Happy birthday darling, and get to school just because you're 17!"

Back in October, Darcey Draper stunned at the National Television Awards as she joined her mum at the showbiz bash where Kate was nominated for an award on her second documentary shining a light on the care system who have helped her and her husband Derek Draper following the devastating effects Covid had on his body.

When she won the award for authored documentary, Kate thanked her husband for his “incredible fighting spirit” before turning her attention to her daughter, who was by her side on stage, and son Billy, who remained at home, Kate said: "But Darcey represents all the family, Billy, all the Drapers in Chorley, everybody. Amazing, amazing."
