Kate Garraway told Good Morning Britain viewers Sir Elton John met with her family after paying tribute to Derek Draper and the ongoing health struggle he's enduring.
On Monday night, Kate, Derek and their two children Darcey and Billy travelled to The O2 Arena to watch Sir Elton John as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.
Earlier in the week, it was revealed the icon serenaded the couple and Kate explained on Thursday's Good Morning Britain that she was able to meet Sir Elton in a very emotional encounter.
Describing the night, Kate began: "Three hours of watching a living legend perform," as co-host Adil Ray interrupted: "You must have been in floods of tears, all of you."
"Derek was crying, Darcey was crying. It was amazing and he's been so kind since, phenomenal. And, we actually got to meet, we didn't think we'd be able to connect them up but he was brilliant," she continued.
"He rushed off stage just as we were trying to get Derek out and Derek and Elton. met. Both of them were in tears, we all were."
Kate explained Sir Elton's children were also present and left in tears by the emotional meeting.
Kate quipped: "It was unbelievable. Anyway, having not spoken about it for 24 hours, I now can't stop talking about it."
Reflecting on the emotional moment, she shared a video of the tribute on Instagram as she revealed Derek is back in hospital.
She wrote: "Finally found someone who had actually filmed it rather than just burst into joyous tears as we did!!! Still can’t quite believe we were there at all - even hours before we feared Derek would be too weak - but he was determined. Yes Derek has been back in hospital this week & yes there’s such a long road ahead but #eltonjohn & @davidfurnish you gave the kids & Derek a moment that we will never forget and has lifted their spirits again to feel anything is possible. Thank you for your inspiring music and huge heart."

Meanwhile, she added on Smooth Radio: "Right up to the last minute, I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to get Derek there. It took weeks of planning and just days before, it looked like he would be too sick to attend. Even on the journey there, he seemed so weak.
"But as soon as we got into the stadium and Elton went on stage, he started weeping tears of joy, and squeezed my hand so tightly. After a while, I asked him if it was time to go and he said, ‘No… want to go back.'"
Earlier in the week, entertainment editor Richard Arnold shared the touching tribute Sir Elton paid to Kate and Derek.
He explained: "Our very own Kate Garraway and Derek were serenaded last night by none other than Sir Elton John himself. He spied them in the audience at The O2 and dedicated the track Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me to them, telling the rest of the arena how he thrilled he was, calling them an inspiring couple."
"That is so emotional," Susanna agreed. "What a beautiful song to pay tribute. Well done Elton, you're a superstar."
On Monday night, Sir Elton told fans the "inspiring" couple had suffered "really tough times".
He said: “They’re inspiring. They’ve never given up and I’m so thrilled they’re here, I can’t believe they are here.”
“I want to dedicate this song to the people I mentioned before, but especially to you guys.”
