Kate Garraway's Caring for Derek leaves viewers in tears within minutes of starting

Kate Garraway's Caring For Derek viewers were in tears minutes after the show started.

The new documentary aired tonight - and gave an insight into Derek Draper's gruelling road to recovery after he returned home from hospital.

The political lobbyist spent 374 days in hospital as he fell seriously ill after contracting coronavirus in March 2020.

Kate revealed in the documentary that Derek's brain and brain and body has been so impacted by covid that he needs support 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Caring For Derek started with Derek's poignant return back to his family home as he was welcomed by Kate and their two children.

Viewers following the show on Twitter and said they were left in tears by the emotional moment.

Lindi said: "In bits already."

Nicke added: "Well I lasted about six minutes before the tears started streaming. Unblocking the emotions of two years as a carer - I also described it as a privilege but a combo of Adrenalin & exhaustion"
