Kate Garraway reveals wardrobe blunder as she took part in Platinum Jubilee Pageant celebrations

Kate Garraway has revealed that she suffered a wardrobe blunder as she had the honour of taking part in the official Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The Good Morning Britain host was one of many famous faces involved in the Platinum Pageant which took place on Sunday.

Hundreds of national treasures joined the Time of Our Lives section of the spectacle in central London, which paid homage to the last seven decades of the Queen's historic reign. A series of open-top buses accommodated singers, actors, and models from each time period.

Meanwhile, a series of classic Jaguar cars carried Dame's including former Strictly judge Arlene Phillips, who joined Kate on Monday's GMB (June 6) to chat about the experience, as well as Joan Collins and Prue Leith, whose car broke down and had to be pushed by stewards towards Buckingham Palace where members of the royal family were watching the pageant which started with a military procession.

Speaking about her blunder, Kate told co-stars Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid: "We were told to wear sensible shoes because there was a lot of walking. But there was a moment when we first arrived which by the way can I just say a personal moment of jubilation for me because there was a big sign that said National Treasures and we got to walk through it.

"We all gathered together and Sir Cliff Richard was there and I thought, ‘I’ve got my old trainers on, I’m embarrassed.'" Susan then chimed in: "So you chucked one away," to which Kate, 55, replied: "I changed and then dropped it."

Speaking about the historic moment, Kate said: "There was a lot of people waving and just saying ‘hello’. There was amazing feeling of party ad we were very lucky Arlene and I to be part of the official Buckingham Palace one. But I feel there was that sense of, if you were watching at home or having your own street party that it’s just a wonderful thing. This a piece of history."

But Arlene also revealed some unseen Jubilee drama. "There was a serious, serious issue. There were seven Jags, seven dames in Jags and my Jag was absolutely belching out black smoke which was going straight into Twiggy's car, which was behind me and she was really upset."

Kate, who was on one of the buses, said: "You're lucky you didn't end up in the Tower," as Arlene continued: "I found it hard to breathe and wave and smile as it was coming to us, but it was really coming to her. So, she emailed and said 'this has to stop.' We had to pull over and then Twiggy's car overtook and off we went."

The colourful and eccentric display was watched by Charles, the Prince of Wales and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, as well as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

And in a surprise to the thousands of well-wishers who lined the streets around Buckingham Palace, the Queen made a brief, smiling appearance on the balcony alongside her heirs to the throne. The 96-year-old monarch waved to the thousands waiting to catch only the second glimpse of the Queen during the four-day weekend.

The family's appearance followed a performance by Ed Sheeran of his hit song, Perfect, before the celebrities involved in the parade gathered on the stage left from the Platinum Party at the Palace, to sing the national anthem.
