Kate Garraway has responded to the suggestion that she has 'paraded' her husband Derek Draper in front of the public.
The TV presenter's latest documentary aired on ITV on Tuesday night.
Caring for Derek, a follow-up to her award-winning 2021 film Finding Derek, followed Kate as she became one of her husband's carers.
The programme picked up from the moment Derek, 54, returned home after more than 370 days in the hospital to be with Kate, also 54, and their two children Darcey and Billy.
The former Labour lobbyist and psychotherapist contracted coronavirus in March 2020. He spent 10 weeks in a coma and the virus caused significant damage to his body resulting in needing around-the-clock care.
The moment Derek returned home in April 2021 was aired on the show, as well as the moment they celebrated his 54th birthday.
It also featured Kate and Derek's trip to Mexico where he underwent ground-breaking treatment after the Good Morning Britain star was contacted by a US doctor who offered to help.
The couple flew out to Monterrey, Mexico, in November 2021 in order for Derek to begin the trial.
They will be returning for another 28-day stay next month, during which doctors will continue to monitor his brain, liver, and lung function.
Before the hour-long documentary aired, which left viewers 'in floods' just minutes in, one Twitter user shared his thoughts with Kate on the social media platform.
They tweeted in response to a clip of Kate talking on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain: "I genuinely hope he makes as full a recovery as possible. Sadly I still can’t reconcile how Derek’s alleged inability to communicate ties in with him consenting to Kate parading him in front of the public."
They added: "That’s never sat comfortably with me."
Kate gave a dignified response, sharing the tweet and writing: "If you watch the doc tonight you will see xx."
During the film, Kate asked her husband if he wanted to film, to which he replied 'Yes' in a whisper.
Speaking on GMB yesterday, Kate revealed that the moments when she thinks 'Why have we been so badly affected?' are now only 'fleeting' and instead she focuses on the positives.
"I kind of think, not why did we have to be so badly affected, but you could also think why are we so lucky that he’s had the chance to continue and so many others haven’t?" she said.
