Kate Garraway 'planning trip' in desperate bid to save husband Derek Draper's life

Kate Garraway is said to be planning a trip in a "desperate bid" to try to save her husband Derek Draper's life by using pioneering medical trials.

Former Labour lobbyist Derek has become one of the worst affected survivors of Covid-19 and spent 13 months in the hospital after contracting the virus. Despite returning home to live with Kate and his two children - Darcey, 16, and Billy, 13 - Derek requires round the clock care.

The Good Morning Britain host, who has fronted two documentaries about Derek's health, reportedly sees their upcoming trip as her "last hope". A source told Bella : “This really is Kate’s desperate bid to try and save Derek’s life and she is willing to try anything."

The insider added: “She’s been looking into a number of experimental medical options around the world and particularly in Mexico in an effort to save him from the devastating effects of Covid-19. Kate only wants the best for Derek. She wants to try it because she feels as though it’s her last hope.”

It comes after Derek travelled to Mexico for clinical trials in 2021 and 2022. Refusing to give up hope for her husband, Kate spoke about the financial hardships she has faced in caring for Derek.

Kate admitted that "costs have gone through the roof in so many ways," since Derek became seriously ill. Speaking to The Sun, she added that their home has needed to be adapted to suit Derek’s needs, and that her working life has been impacted as a result of her husband’s illness.

Kate explained: "Perhaps there is the assumption that because I’m on the telly, and because people have heard so much of Derek’s story - and he has touched so many hearts - that we’ve had special treatment from the NHS or bypassed waiting lists."

She added that they are still waiting on referrals from almost three years ago, when Derek first contracted Covid-19.
