Kate Garraway planning ‘desperate' trip to save husband Derek

Kate Garraway is reportedly planning to fly across the world in a bid to save her husband Derek and bring some hope back in her family's lives. Derek, who is a former political adviser, is the longest-suffering coronavirus patient in the UK and spent 13 months in hospital before returning to the family home with Kate and their two children, Darcey, 16 and Billy, 13.

He needs around-the-clock care, and Good Morning Britain star Kate, 55, has been with her husband of 13 years every step of the way as he has fought to pull through. She recently admitted that her husband was "very damaged" after falling into a coma for months after contracting Covid in 2020, but she is now reportedly planning on taking Derek on another trip to seek medical help.

The Birmingham Mail says that Kate is reportedly set to fly across the world with her husband to undergo pioneering treatment. It comes after Derek travelled to Mexico for clinical trials in 2021 and 2022.

Lifting the lid on Kate and Derek's "last hope" trip, the Mail quotes a source as telling Bella : "This really is Kate’s desperate bid to try and save Derek’s life and she is willing to try anything. She’s been looking into a number of experimental medical options around the world and particularly in Mexico in an effort to save him from the devastating effects of Covid-19.

"Kate only wants the best for Derek. She wants to try it because she feels as though it’s her last hope."

The Mirror says that despite Derek's condition, Kate is 'refusing to give up' on her husband's health battle. Speaking to Giovanna Fletcher on her podcast, Journey To Magic, she admitted: "It is challenging, he's still very, very damaged.

"He still can't really move, still can't really speak, still fed through tubes, and so there's a long road ahead. But if you compare to last Christmas or the Christmas before, when he was still in hospital then you can see improvement."
