Kate Garraway has paid tribute to her Good Morning Britain co-host Ben Shephard whilst chatting on ITV’s Lorraine. The presenting duo were chatting to Lorraine Kelly about ITV’s 1 Million Minutes campaign but conversation soon turned to the pair’s special bond and particularly, how he’d supported her throughout her husband Derek Draper’s illness.
Offering an update on Derek’s condition, Kate told Lorraine: “It is a long onslaught and I can see - he has some better days, he has some worse days. He is at home, thankfully, now. It has been a long battle to get him back home again.”
She then addressed her GMB co-host and added: “I mean, Ben, for all his jokes aside - and his unbelievable cheek - has been extraordinary.... because I can't help but think you, Lorraine, all the people around me, all the people at GMB, and all the people on the radio and everything, you must be sick to your back teeth. And that is the problem, I think, for people who are caring in a long term situation,"

Kate and Derek have been married since 2005, and she has been caring for him as he battles ill health. After contracting Covid in March 2020, Derek was the longest Covid patient in hospital before being released home, but he was rushed back a couple of times for some treatment.
