Kate Garraway is hiring a chef over Christmas as she continues to look after husband Derek Draper, according to reports.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, has been assisting husband Derek at home in his long recovery, following his hospitalisation after falling seriously ill with Covid in early 2020.
The former spin doctor returned to hospital earlier this year as he was treated for sepsis, and Garraway revealed it had been a “long battle” to get her husband back home, after his most recent visit.
Garraway is said to be making a huge effort this Christmas and the Mirror has reported that she is hiring a chef to cook dinner on the big day, while she celebrates with Derek and their two children Darcey 16, and Billy, 13.
A source reportedly told Closer magazine: “Kate’s not holding back this year - she’s already found a chef who can cook a full Christmas meal for them.
"It’ll no doubt be full-on as he [Derek] needs round the clock care, which Kate takes on herself alongside his carers.”
Derek was released from hospital after developing sepsis earlier this month. Garraway said her husband’s release was the “biggest gift”, ahead of the holidays.
A source shared that the ITV host is "doing her best to stay positive" and is "extremely grateful Derek is home to begin his New Year afresh, getting his recovery on track."
The Standard has contacted Garraway’s representatives for comment.
Derek’s strained progress in recovery has been well-documented in wife Garraway’s ITV series Kate Garraway: Finding Derek.
Garraway won her second consecutive National Television Award for the documentary at the awards ceremony, held in London last month.
Giving an update on her husband’s health on Lorraine, Garraway said earlier this month that she felt those around her must be “fed up to the back teeth” of her discussing the topic.
Her GMB co-host Ben Shepherd, who had joined her on the show, reassured her that this is not the case.
Garraway continued: “You know, it’s a long onslaught. I can see he has better days; he has worse days. He is thankfully at home now.
“It’s been a long battle to get him back home again.”
