Kate Garraway has revealed she’s stepping into a whole new challenge beyond Good Morning Britain—and it’s got nothing to do with early morning headlines. The much-loved presenter, 57, is swapping the news desk for the kitchen as she joins the star-studded line-up for The Great Celebrity Bake Off: Stand Up To Cancer, according to the Express.
During Thursday’s episode of GMB, entertainment correspondent Richard Arnold broke the news while Kate was on air with co-hosts Ed Balls and Susanna Reid. The special charity edition of the Bake Off will return to Channel 4 on March 16, featuring a fresh batch of celebrities, including Roman Kemp, Jamali Maddix, and Maxine Peake.
Ed couldn’t resist teasing Kate about her baking skills, cheekily asking, “Did you have a soggy bottom?” Kate fired back with her trademark wit: “I always have a soggy bottom, Ed, as you well know!” The studio burst into laughter, with Ed quickly clarifying, “I mean in cookery terms!”
Kate remained tight-lipped about how well she performed in the tent but hinted at some chaos in the kitchen. “A lot of surfaces got covered, but brilliant. I can’t give anything away though,” she teased. The much-loved baking show, which sees celebs attempt to impress judges with their skills (or lack of them) through signature, technical, and showstopper challenges, will welcome a new face to the judging panel this year.
Caroline Waldegrave, former co-owner and managing director of Leiths School of Food and Wine, will be stepping in to join Paul Hollywood in judging duties. The switch-up comes after Bake Off veteran Prue Leith announced she would be taking a break from the celebrity edition, reports Manchester Evening News.
Fans were initially worried this might signal her permanent exit from the Bake Off world, but Prue quickly shut down any speculation. Speaking on This Morning, she reassured viewers, “It’s absolutely not true at all! What I’m not doing this year is the celebrity one.”
Explaining her decision, Prue added, “These things are filmed back-to-back all the way through summer from April to August so you don’t get any time off. I’m getting quite old, and there are places I want to see, so I’m not doing this year’s.”
With a brand-new line-up of celebrities ready to tackle pastry disasters, burnt biscuits, and Hollywood handshakes, this year’s Celebrity Bake Off promises plenty of laughs—and maybe even a soggy bottom or two. Fans will have to tune in to see if Kate rises to the occasion or crumbles under the pressure!
