Fans have reached out in support to Kate Garraway as she revealed an amazing and emotional tribute was paid to her ailing husband Derek Draper onstage by superstar Elton John. The Good Morning Britain host revealed that she went on Monday (April 17) to Sir Elton’s gig at the O2 Arena with her husband who has been seriously ill from the impact of coronavirus.
Kate was wowed when Elton spotted them in the crowd and dedicated his hit song, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me, to them. The presenter has taken to Instagram to reveal she has found footage of the emotional moment as she shared the clip with her 1.1m followers.
She said: “So this was a moment. Finally found someone who had actually filmed it rather than just burst into joyous tears as we did!!! Still can’t quite believe we were there at all - even hours before we feared Derek would be too weak - but he was determined.

“Yes Derek has been back in hospital this week & yes there’s such a long road ahead but #eltonjohn & @davidfurnish you gave the kids & Derek a moment that we will never forget and has lifted their spirits again to feel anything is possible. Thank you for your inspiring music and huge heart.
"Thank you too to everyone else who made the impossible possible. All the carers, the #rocketentertainment team, the gang @theo2london who work so hard to make concerts like this accessible & @addisonleecabs who worked hard to find suitable transport. We are bursting with gratitude xx.”
Fellow presenter Susanna Reid said: “So beautiful.” Fans were stunned at the gesture. Lis Fergo said: “Oh wow how amazing. Elton John has such a special place in my heart, your song was our wedding song and unfortunately I guess that’s why I call it the blues we played at my husbands funeral.”
Janineks added: “We were there and were in tears so can only imagine how you must have felt. Such a beautiful moment when everyone clapped and cheered for you xx.”
Ali Claire said: “My husband and I were at the concert that night, and my heart melted when Elton said that he was dedicating the song for you, Derek and your kids…. Very special to share this moment with you all.”
Kate has previously revealed on Good Morning Britain how Elton reached out to offer support after Derek fell seriously ill. She said: “Elton John contacted me. It was so strange. I was like, ‘Elton… John?’ We do have a mutual friend, which I didn’t know about.
"And because of all the work he does with the Aids Foundation he was like, ‘What can I do to help? I know a bit about antiviral stuff. And I’m on board. I’ll try to help. He’s incredible.”
