Kate Garraway apologises after calling Climate Minister 'disingenuous' in GMB clash

Good Morning Britain aired an awkward exchange on Friday, as Climate Minister Graham Stuart called out Kate Garraway over her comments.

GMB host Kate had responded to something the government minister was referencing, amid reported fears over possible energy blackouts during winter.

Brits were told they could face three-hour planned blackouts in the event of a gas shortage this winter.

MP Graham Stuart claimed that while this was very "unlikely", the National Grid had offered warnings about power and saving energy and costs each winter.

But as Kate pointed out the three-hour blackout comments were not something raised each year, or at least she hadn't seen it before, the pair clashed over "disingenuous" claims.

As the guest shared his thoughts on the likelihood of it happening, and the yearly advice, Kate told him: "I think that's a little bit disingenuous if I may say because...."

Stuart interrupted after pulling a face at this remark, and said: "That's strong..."

Kate quickly added of what she was referring to: "Not the very unlikely [bit]..." to which he said: "Oh right."

She then continued: "But the National Grid does definitely say every winter advice on energy saving, but they don't specifically warn do they, that we might have three-hour blackouts in the way they have this time. But you're right, it is very unlikely."

The show guest then told her: "So Kate, very unlikely, and you accuse me of being disingenuous and that's quite a strong word... I just think you should withdraw..."

Kate interrupted: "I just mean at your point where you say they do it every winter, and I think that makes it seem like it's made up whereas actually, when you look at it it's the first time I have ever seen it."

Stuart hit back: "Well they do do it every winter... well that's down to you Kate rather than them, they do do it every winter and they've said that the risks are higher than previous years, but still extremely unlikely.

"Nothing about that is disingenuous and I think it's very important, especially when dealing with something of this seriousness, that unless I do make a factual error, which I am doubtless capable of, that you don't accuse me of doing something which I haven't done."

Kate apologised, saying: "Absolutely, and I do apologise and I only meant that on that specific point."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV Hub.
