Kate Cassidy has opened up in her first TV interview since the tragic death of her boyfriend, Liam Payne, sharing an emotional message to the late One Direction star. Liam passed away in October 2024 after falling from a balcony in Buenos Aires. Initially, five people were charged in connection with his death, but charges against three, including Liam’s friend Roger Nores, the hotel manager Gilda Martin, and receptionist Esteban Grassi, have now been dropped.
In the interview, Kate spoke about wearing a necklace made of angel wings as a way of feeling closer to Liam. She told Lorraine Kelly: “It actually is angel wings. I saw it in a little gift shop a couple of weeks ago, and I feel like it spoke to me and matches my angel wing tattoos. I wear it quite often, and it once again makes me feel closer to Liam”, reported the Mirror.
Kate had previously shared a heartbreaking tribute to Liam at the time of his death, revealing they had plans to marry. She posted: “I don’t even know where to begin. My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words. I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone – millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are so incredibly loved.”
She continued: “You are because I can’t say were – my best friend, the love of my life, and everyone you touched felt just as special as I did. Your energy was contagious, lighting up every room you walked into. None of this feels real, and I can’t wrap my head around this new reality of not having you here. I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side. Together, we got to be kids again, always finding joy in the smallest things.”
Reflecting on the moment she found out about Liam’s death, Kate shared: “I feel blessed I didn’t find out over social media because I just couldn’t even imagine that. I was in our home with our dog, scrolling TikTok, and one of Liam’s friends called me. That moment, it’s like blank; it’s blacked out in my head. I didn’t believe it at first. I thought it was just a rumour. Or something that somebody made up just to get views. Then instantly I just had a bad feeling in my gut. I was like, ‘Why would somebody make this up? Is this true?'”
Kate and Liam’s love story began when she served him at a bar in Charleston, South Carolina. Initially, she gave him the wrong number, but they later reconnected and enjoyed several years together before his untimely death.
