Srinagar: Unabated freezing cold conditions continues to hunt Kashmir valley as most parts experienced seasons lowest temperature with Srinagar plummeting to minus 5.5 degree Celsius on Thursday.
Interior parts of Dal Lake, Chunti Khul and other small water bodies’ freezes in Srinagar and other parts of the Kashmir valley due to the season’s lowest temperature on the second day of the harshest part of the winter “Chalia Kalan” today.
Meteorological Centre forecast currently weather is mainly clear at most places of Jammu and Kashmir is likely to remain dry till December 25.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, experienced the season's coldest night on Thursday with temperature plummeting to minus 5.5 degree Celsius against minus 4.2 degree Celsius the previous night. It was minus 3.5 degree Celsius below normal during this period of the season.
Tourist hot spot of Pahalgam in south Kashmir continued to be the coldest part of the Kashmir valley with minimum temperature dipped to minus 6.8 degree Celsius against minus 6.2 degree Celsius recorded on Wednesday. It was minus 1.8 degree Celsius below normal during this time of the season.
Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir had a low of minus 5.8 degree Celsius against minus 4.6 degree Celsius the previous night. it was still 0.6 degree Celsius above normal for the valley of meadow during this period of the season.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway recorded a low of minus 4.4 degree Celsius against minus 4.2 degree Celsius while Kukernag recorded a low of minus 3.3 degree Celsius against minus 2.4 degree Celsius recorded a day ago.
The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara dipped to minus 5.1 degree Celsius against minus 4.4 degree Celsius which was minus 2.5 degree Celsius below normal for the place in north Kashmir, the MeT office said. (UNI)
