Gone are the days when Rock in Rio was exclusively a rock music festival. It has now evolved into an event that brings together artists from various genres, and this year, Colombian superstar Karol G stole the show.
Her performance this past weekend in Brazil wowed the audience, breaking through language barriers. Karol G brought the heat with her reggaeton hits for over an hour, thrilling more than 60,000 fans and cementing her status as the queen of Latin music.
Dressed in a crop top and black pants, "La Bichota" kicked off her set with the song that shares her nickname. The crowd immediately erupted, singing along to the track that once peaked at number three on Billboard's Hot Latin 100. She continued with other fan favorites like "Oki Doki," "Gatúbela," and "Provenza." The latter featured a unique, unreleased version with a new electronic twist that buzzed the audience, and took the song to a new level.
One of the night's standout moments was when Karol G stood center stage with her dance crew, performing a choreographed routine filled with sensual moves, acrobatics, and even a water display. The choreography and stage design mimicked her music video for "TQG," her hit collaboration with Shakira.
Karol G also impressed the crowd by speaking in Portuguese, which elicited a tremendous response from the crowd. She also surprised the fans by inviting drag queen Pabllo Vittar, French singer Yseult, and Iranian artist Sevdaliza to join her on stage for a performance of her hit "Alabi."
Of course, La Bichota delivered an emotional rendition of "Rosa que linda eres," a beloved Colombian song.
Another highlight was her performance of "Tusa," her 2019 collaboration with Nicki Minaj. Towards the end of the concert, the entire crowd belted out the lyrics.
Before wrapping up, Karol G took a moment to thank her fans and closed the show with "Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido." This came just a week after the song trended globally following her performance at the 2024 VMAs, where she shared the stage with Taylor Swift.
La Bichota is one of the top nominees for both the Latin Grammys and the Latin Billboards this year, thanks to her album "Mañana Será Bonito, Bichota Season." We can't wait to see what's next for the queen!
