SHIVAMOGGA/CHIKKAMAGALURU: Heavy rain caused a landslide in Agumbe ghat connecting Shivamogga and Udupi districts, bringing vehicular traffic to a halt on Sunday.
The district administration has issued a travel advisory for commuters, directing them to take a diversion at Agumbe and Thirthahalli town and to proceed further towards Mastikatte in Hosanagar taluk to reach Hulikal ghat for Udupi district, and to take Sringeri-Karkala Road to reach Dakshina Kannada district. After inspecting the restoration works at the ghat, home minister Araga Jnanendra asked highway authorities to come up with a permanent solution.
Shivamogga deputy commissioner R Selvamani banned vehicular movement along the ghat till July 12. As per the notification, only light vehicles will be allowed till July 30, he said.
