Karnataka: Several areas in Malnad districts witness heavy rainfall

MYSURU: Malnad districts of the state -- Chikkamagalur, Shivamogga, and Kodagu -- are witnessing a heavy rainfall.

Floodwater has caused damages to properties and farm land in many areas of this region.

All the district administrations are on high alert.

According to the authorities, in Kodagu district, Nalkeri-Srimangala road was blocked for vehicle movement after a local bridge submerged in the floodwater. Minor landslides were reported from Aiyangeri.

In Shivamogga district, a relief center opened in Sagara town after floodwater entered several low-lying areas.

The affected families are asked to contact 9480010111 for flood rescue and relief operations.

Local MLA H Halappa visited the rain-affected areas and reviewed the situation.

Jog falls in Sagar taluk regained its glory due to increased flow in the river.

In Hassan, Shiradi ghat section witnessed heavy rainfall.

Vehicle movement on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway was disrupted following a minor landslip near Donigal yesterday.

Mysuru witnessed a cloudy weather with light spells of rain.

Following heavy rainfall in Wayanad, inflow to Kabini dam in HD Kote taluk now crossed 24,000 cusecs. Inflow to KRS dam touched 20,796 cusecs.

According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) authorities, yellow alert has been issued to all the malnad districts for Friday.

Yellow alert forecast of heavy rainfall between 64.5mm and 115.5mm.
