BENGALURU: Congress is set to use the 40% commission allegations by contractors’ association as an election plank against the BJP government.
The issue was at the forefront during a public event organised by Congress’ state unit in Bengaluru on Monday to mark the official takeover of senior Congressman MB Patil as state campaign manager.
Senior functionaries including AICC general secretary and Karnataka in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala were in attendance and mentioned the issue.
KPCC president DK Shivakumar and opposition leader Siddaramaiah dismissed the poor results of the party in five state elections including in Uttar Pradesh, insisting that it will have no bearing on elections in Karnataka.
Shivakumar even went a step ahead and claimed BJP is on the backfoot after a string of setbacks in gram panchayat elections. “We lost the Belagavi byelections by a measly 3,000 votes,” Shivakumar said. “As a result, BJP is now using religion and communalism and not development to bolster their prospects in the state. ”
