Fashion supremo Karl Lagerfeld was involved in a bitter feud with a top model, a close friend of the German designer has revealed - ahead of him being honoured at this year's Met Gala.
A friend of the fashion great ha opened up about Karl's penchant for cutting somebody off when his trust was compromised, specifically doing this with iconic supermodel Claudia Schiffer.
The revered Chanel mogul had left the fashion world bereft when he passed away after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the age of 85 in February 2019.
Karl made a name for himself after rising up the ranks in the sixties, starting at luxury fashion house Fendi.
It was in the eighties that he went on to take over Chanel, with Coco Chanel calling him a "mean b**ch".
He made German model Claudia, who is now 52, the face of the brand, but their friendship didn't last.
In upcoming BBC Two documentary The Mysterious Mr Lagerfeld, according to The Sun, his brand executive Caroline Lebar said: "Planet Karl is black and white, made of loyalty and friendship.
"The recurrent reason of someone "disappearing" from Planet Karl was him feeling betrayed — that was the worst."
Gilles Dufour, who Karl worked with at Chanel, said: "We didn’t even say goodbye to each other when I left Chanel.
"All the people that tried to leave him, they were out, like Claudia Schiffer was at one time."
An official statement was published on Karl's Instagram announcing his death, that said: "The House of KARL LAGERFELD shares, with deep emotion and sadness, the passing of its creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, on February 19, 2019, in Paris, France.
"'He was one of the most influential and celebrated designers of the 21st century and an iconic, universal symbol of style. Driven by a phenomenal sense of creativity, Karl was passionate, powerful and intensely curious.
"He leaves behind an extraordinary legacy as one of the greatest designers of our time, and there are no words to express how much he will be missed."
The 2023 Met Gala will honour Karl Lagerfeld as the theme of its event, "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty".
Guests are being encouraged to dress in outfits that represent the late fashion designer's work and style.
