Neighbours star Alan Fletcher has confirmed he will be coming to Newcastle with his one man show, once the Australian soap has ended in the summer.
There was heartbreak amongst fans of the long-running show earlier this year, firstly when there were rumours that its future was in doubt, before it was confirmed that the axe had indeed fallen in Neighbours, with UK broadcaster Channel 5 pulling the plug. A post on the soap's official Twitter confirmed the news fans had been dreading, with it reading: "We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9,000 episodes broadcast, we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June.
"Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show. To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team."

There has been some good news for Neighbours viewers in recent weeks with the announcement that Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue will return, along with other former Ramsey Street favourites like Daniel McPherson (Joel), Ian Smith (Harold) and Melissa Bell (Lucy).
Someone still very much part of the is Alan, who has held the role of doctor Karl Kennedy for decades. And once cameras stop rolling on Neighbours, he will head across the other side of the world to British soil for his The Doctor Will See You UK tour that will include a show at Northern Stage on September 7. Tickets go on sale on Friday, May 13.
Revealing all on Twitter, Alan wrote: "I am thrilled to announce that after 2 years of Covid cancellations, my show - The Doctor Will See You Now is finally heading out on the road in the UK this September!"
The Doctor Will See You Now promises songs and stories from the Neighbours legend, with teaser adding: "Alan has created an ‘In Conversation’ style stage show that examines his 28 years on Neighbours. Expect him to be grilled about all the big moments in Dr Karl’s life and times.
"This show contains incredible archival Neighbours video footage, music and chat PLUS some opportunities to meet Alan after the show."
