Karina Gidi and Andrés Delgado shine in 'La Máquina', the first Spanish-language series on HULU, which can be viewed worldwide on Disney+. Yes, it's the same series that Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal spent a decade developing, and it has rekindled our love for the most brotherly carnales in the world.
However, we haven't just fallen in love with them. Karina and Andrés' roles have equally impacted and endeared us. Their performances impressed us, and the stories they told through the characters of siblings Carlota and Saúl Pérez are essential to supporting Esteban Ozuna (García Bernal) and Andy Luján (Luna).
In an interview with ENSTARZ ¡Latino! and the Latin Times, the Mexican actors discussed their characters and how they connected with them.
Carlota and Saúl in 'La Máquina'
For Gidi, her character is that of a woman who represents freedom. "Her husband trusts her a lot, so she doesn't ask for permission to say or do things, and that makes her border on being imprudent."
"It was very liberating for me to see myself playing such a spontaneous woman, with that spontaneity and freedom," she added. "Also, the presence of alcohol helps her loosen up a bit." To portray her, Gidi envisioned her as an "Avenue of Freedom," a character who "doesn't judge herself." On the other hand, she considers her scenes with Luna a "gift." Some are very wild and very fun.
Delgado portrays Saúl, the assistant to Esteban and Andy. He is a character who partly represents the audience and partly a child witnessing the world of boxing with innocence.
"I wanted to explore him a lot through my own body, to understand where the character was, how he connected, and why he was there," the actor shared. "I know why they (Andy and Esteban) had him there, but I also wanted to create a space that would explain why they empathized with me and, from there, explore, listen, and listen."
All the episodes of 'La Máquina' are now available, and they're amazing. In addition to Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, Karina Gidi, and Andrés Delgado, Lucía Méndez and Eiza González also star. All the characters are spectacular, and their performances are even more so.
