The Central government has approved establishment of a Sainik School for Karimnagar as a part of the 21 new Sainik Schools approved by the Ministry of Defence in partnership mode from the academic year 2022-2023.
The location of the school in Karimnagar is not yet known but it assumes significance as the Parliamentary constituency is represented by State BJP chief, Bandi Sanjay. The new schools will be distinct from the existing Sainik Schools.
These schools will be set up in the initial round of the government’s initiative of setting up of 100 new Sainik schools across the country in partnership mode. The objective is to provide quality education to the students in tune with National Education Policy and give them better career opportunities, including joining the Armed Forces.
In the new list of 21 schools, 17 are Brownfield running schools and 4 are Greenfield schools. While NGOs, trusts or societies have a share of 12 approved new schools, six are private schools and the remaining three will be State government-owned. Unlike existing Sainik Schools which are purely residential in nature, seven new Sainik Schools will be day schools and 14 will have residential arrangements.
Entry to the new Sainik Schools will be class 6. At least 40% of intake in class 6 will be from candidates who have qualified the All-India Sainik School Entrance Examination conducted by NTA through e-counselling.
Up to 60% intake will be from students enrolled in the same school and desirous of taking admission under this vertical of new Sainik Schools through a qualifying test, notification for which will be issued separately. The academic session for approved new Sainik Schools is likely to commence in the first week of May 2022. Details can be had on https:/sainikschool.ncog.gov.in.
