Karen Gillan has set her sights on iconic DC Comics villain Poison Ivy as she says goodbye to the Guardians of The Galaxy franchise.
The Inverness-born actress, who shot to fame for her role as Amy Pond in Doctor Who alongside Matt Smith, is currently promoting the third and final film in the Guardians franchise. Karen, 35, who plays Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is eyeing up the role of the iconic DC Comics villain for her next project.
Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was recently appointed as the new co-head of DC Studios as the Scots actresses admits she'd love to work with him again.
Speaking to Total Film magazine, Gillan said: "I always thought that Poison Ivy was really fun. So maybe something like that would be cool.
"Honestly, if James asked me to play an alien that sits in the background of a shot and doesn’t talk, I would say yes. Because working with him has been one of the great joys of my career so far."
Poison Ivy is the fictional villain that features in the Batman comics and is a botanist and biochemist with a poisonous touch and a supernatural control over plants.
The Scots actress described her role as Nebula as the "gift that keeps on giving" since she didn't imagine it would be a recurring one. Karen, who famously shaved her head for the role, said: "I was under the impression I was signing up for eight days of filming on the first film.
"And then it just gradually kept getting extended. And here we are, nine or 10 years later."
Speaking fondly of her Marvel character, she said: "I just genuinely love this character so much, and I feel like there’s just an endless amount of things that could be done with her.
"So, yeah, I would obviously love to explore more, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. I’m waiting to see just as much as everyone else."
