Karat eyes recovery with 25% sales boost

Mrs Pringprai says sales growth resumed in the first quarter this year.

Karat Enterprise (Thailand) aims to secure sales growth of 25% this year to reach a record high of 625 million baht, based on a strong recovery in demand following the pandemic.

Deputy chief executive Pringprai Nitayanont said sales growth resumed in the first quarter this year, rising 20% following a period of stagnation between 2020-22.

Karat manufactures faucets, sanitaryware, bathroom accessories, and digital door lock systems.

"We are experiencing overwhelming demand," Mrs Pringprai said.

"Our production line staff have been working on weekends and holidays to fulfil an influx of orders."

As a result, the company's production capacity has reached a peak of 100%, exceeding its usual rate of 80-90%.

The staff agreed to work during the Songkran holiday to meet demand.

"Sales in major tourist destinations like Phuket and Pattaya were very robust, particularly hotels and resorts after the return of foreign tourists," she said.

The company projects a 25% increase in sales to 625 million baht this year, up from 500 million last year when sales grew 8%.

The anticipated sales growth would be a new high for the company, surpassing the previous record of 600 million baht in 2015.

Like many other businesses, the company was affected by the pandemic, with sales falling 15% in 2020 year-on-year to 450 million baht from 530 million.

Among the seven categories of products totalling more than 3,000 items, faucets under the Karat brand accounted for the largest sales tally, representing 30-40%.

Second was accessories and fittings, such as floor drains and rinsing sprays at 20-30%, followed by shower systems at 15%, with the remainder coming from one-piece sanitaryware under the Esther brand, kitchenware and others.

Esther is a new brand for sanitaryware products, faucets and digital door lock systems targeting the middle to upper-end segments. The brand was launched a few months before the pandemic.

This year Esther introduced new products including digital temperature control faucets, automatic toilets and water-resistant digital door lock systems.

Mrs Pringprai said the company plans to register 40 million baht in sales from Esther in 2023, which would represent a doubling of growth from last year.
