Kanye West to pay Kim Kardashian $200,000 a month in child support

Kanye West must pay Kim Kardashian $200,000 (£167,000) per month in child support, after the former Hollywood power couple settled their divorce. The reality star, 42, and rapper, 45, will exercise joint custody over their four children and must consult with each other on “all major decisions” relating to them.

Issues surrounding child custody, welfare and property were finalised in court documents filed on Tuesday and obtained by the PA news agency. It comes almost two years after Kardashian filed for divorce in February 2021.

According to the documents: “Commencing December 1, 2022, Respondent (West) shall pay to Petitioner (Kardashian) as and for child support the sum of 200,000 dollars per month. The child support shall be paid by wire transfer on the first day of each month to an account to be designated by Petitioner.”

On the question of custody, the documents stated: “The parties shall share joint legal custody of the Minor Children. In exercising joint legal custody, the parties shall consult with one another on all major decisions relating to the Minor Children’s health, education and welfare.”

It added that consent from both Kardashian and West would be required on matters including a change of school, mental and physical wellbeing, and religious activities. If they cannot agree on the matters they must engage in “mediation for at least three hours”, the documents stated.

“If a Party fails or refuses to participate in the mediation in the manner set forth herein, the other Party shall have sole decision-making power regarding the item(s) then in dispute.”

The pair share North, 9, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 3. Kardashian was declared legally single by a US court in March, changing her name from Kardashian-West back to just Kardashian.

The motion to change her marital status, made in December 2021, was granted before details of the divorce were finalised. Earlier this year, she accused West of causing her “emotional distress” over a series of online attacks made by the rapper.

Few celebrity marriages captured such global attention as that of the pair — their vast wealth and love of the spotlight proved irresistible to fans and critics alike. They had been friends for years – West appeared in a 2010 episode of Kourtney And Kim Take New York – and two of the most famous people on the planet started dating in April 2012.

Kardashian was still legally married to professional basketball player Kris Humphries, who she notoriously split from after 72 days of marriage. In September that year, the new couple appeared together at Paris Fashion Week, going on to become regular fixtures of the couture circuit.

Three months later West announced on stage during a concert in New Jersey that Kardashian was expecting. In May the following year the couple attended the Met Gala, with a heavily pregnant Kardashian wearing the dress that launched a million memes.

Her floral print Givenchy gown – with matching gloves – attracted widespread mockery, with the late Robin Williams comparing her to Mrs Doubtfire. It was one of the first examples of the Kardashian-West union electrifying the internet.

But by July 2020, it became clear the relationship was struggling. West raised eyebrows when he announced he would run for president. In a rambling speech in North Charleston, South Carolina, he told a crowd he and Kardashian had considered aborting their first child.

He then posted a series of erratic tweets, claiming his wife had tried to get doctors to lock him up. He also made a series of accusations against his mother-in-law, Kris Jenner, before claiming had had previously tried to divorce Kardashian.

Kardashian later spoke about West’s battle with bipolar disorder, saying he is a “brilliant but complicated person” whose “words sometimes do not align with his intentions”.

During the latter half of 2020, reports resurfaced that the marriage was in difficulty. Those rumours reached fever pitch in January 2021, with multiple US outlets suggesting divorce was imminent, claiming West had been living at his ranch in Wyoming while Kardashian had been with the children in California.

Those reports were confirmed in February of that year when Kardashian-West filed for divorce.

In legal documents she said no reconciliation would be “of any value” as irreconcilable differences “continued to exist” and that she had requested several times that West agree to the split. Her request was granted in March, with the reality star changing her name back from Kardashian-West, to just Kardashian.

Despite reports of West’s continued attempts to win her back, Kardashian seemed adamant that the separation was final – going public with her rumoured relationship with Saturday Night Live (SNL) star Pete Davidson, just over a week after her legal single status was granted. Meanwhile, the rapper also struck up a new relationship of his own, with actress and model Julia Fox. That relationship did not last, with representatives for Fox confirming their split in mid-February.

Meanwhile, West’s online behaviour became increasingly erratic, lashing out at both Kardashian and Davidson on social media with a series of Instagram posts.
