Kansas Parents Outraged After School Introduces 'Open' Pre-K Bathrooms with No Stall Doors

Parents in Kansas are protesting the design of a newly opened preschool bathroom, expressing concerns over the lack of privacy due to the stalls not having any doors.

The backlash ensued after the Pratt, Kansas, district expanded its preschool program at Southwest Elementary, KSN reported.

They introduced new restrooms with open layouts to accommodate different kid's developmental needs, especially those still learning how to use the bathroom on their own.

Despite the design being in line with the state's early learning standards, several parents have come together to argue that the open design infringes on their children's privacy and anxiety.

Parents Christina and Kyle Howell started a petition to change the bathrooms and requested their child be allowed to use a different bathroom, successfully gathering more than 1,000 signatures.

"Working with the teacher and the principal they did allow our son to be taken with a para over into another bathroom with a stall," Christina said, adding "that next week, our son was sleeping."

The Pratt School District has not indicated plans to change the restroom's design, but the Howell's petition has sparked public interest and concern among local families.
