Three people have been killed and two wounded in a mass shooting at a nightclub in the early hours of today.
Police say two people were killed at the scene and a third victim died at hospital following the shooting at the Klymax Lounge Nightclub.
Two other victims were injured and taken to hospital, with one in a critical condition and the other stable, according to the Kansas City Police Department.
One of the victims who was killed at the scene was said to be inside the bar, while the second was outside the building, according to police.
The victims were all adults, but police are yet to release their ages and identities.
Officers were called to the Klymax Lounge on Indiana Avenue, in Kansas City, Missouri, US, at 1.25am. Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were at the scene early on Sunday.
In a statement, the Kansas City Police Department said: "Two victims were pronounced deceased at the scene. One of those victims was located outside the lounge and the second was located inside the business."
The statement added: "Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel have responded to the scene. They will be processing the scene to recover any evidence and speaking to any potential witnesses."
Police have not yet confirmed whether anyone has been arrested in connection with the shooting, with fears the shooter is still on the loose.
Officers arrived on the scene within minutes of being called. When they arrived they reportedly located multiple victims and began providing medical aid.
Those at the scene described the club as being right in the middle of a residential neighbourhood, and said there were lots of people out on the street watching while police worked to investigate the scene.
Police said the club, which is in a residential area, was known as Club 42 before changing its name to Klymax Lounge.
The venue is described as a restaurant and lounge on its Facebook page, open Monday to Sunday.
The nightclub sits on an intersection opopsite a convenience store in a residential neighbourhood in the suburbs of Kansas City, Missouri.
Kansas City is the largest city in Missouri by both population and area, with a population of more than 500,000. It lies on the western edge of Missouri, straddling the Kansas border.
