Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid insisted that he will return to the team next season if the team want him after winning Super Bowl LVII.
On Sunday night in Arizona, Reid’s Chiefs secured a dramatic 38-35 win over the Philadelphia Eagles in a game which will go down as an all-time classic. Kansas City star quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 182 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Chiefs to a sensational win, which was secured by kicker Harrison Butker with just eight seconds remaining.
Before the game, Reid’s name hit headlines after he didn’t rule out retiring in a pre-match interview. According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, Reid suggested he had a decision to make and claimed he ‘wasn’t getting any younger’.
However, the 64-year-old - and two-time Super Bowl champion - insisted he is willing to return to lead the Chiefs as they look to defend the Vince Lombardi trophy in 2023. After winning the Super Bowl with confetti still resting on his shoulders, Reid told reporters, including Mirror Sport: “Listen, if they’ll have me, I’ll stick around.”
Reid has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl appearances in four years, translating those trips into a pair of victories. Reid had previously been the winningest coach in NFL history to not win a title until he did so with the Chiefs three years ago in Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers after failing to do win in 14 years as head coach of the Eagles.
His success in Kansas City red has come with Mahomes at the helm, and the duo are forming one of the great partnerships in league history. The 24-year-old said Reid had earned the right to retire amid an illustrious career, but insisted the suggestion his coach could retire after the Super Bowl was news to him.

Mahomes insisted he expects Reid to be back as they chase a third ring together next season. He added: “I could tell by how much he enjoys this, it’s (retirement) not in the near future.”
After winning the league MVP on Thursday, Mahomes became the first player to win both MVP and the Super Bowl in the same season since Kurt Warner in 1999. He heaped praise on his teammates and suggested the team was not done yet.
“I just want to shout out my teammates, we challenge each other, it took everybody to win this football game,” the two-time MVP added. “I won't say dynasty yet - we're not done!”
