Kanhaiya Lal murder case: Udaipur returns to normal, curfew relaxed for 14 hrs

UDAIPUR: A week after the gruesome murder of Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, life in the Lake City has returned to normal. With curfew relaxed for 14 hours during the day, schools, shops and establishments opened as usual. The NIA team on Monday night arrested accused Mohsin from Vijay Singh Pathic Nagar and detained two others in connection with the murder of Kanhaiya Lal.

Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia on Tuesday visited the spot where Kanhaiya Lal was murdered. She walked toward the shop from Hathipole Chouraha and on the way discussed the incident with locals. After reaching Kanhaiya’s shop, she spoke to shopkeepers in the neighbourhood. She expressed concern and said even after a week of the incident, people in the area were under shock.

Many shopkeepers are yet to open their shops and because of fear, many are not willing to come out of their homes. “I have heard about the incident from police and the administration but to know the reality, I have come to the spot,” she said.

Raje praised the efforts of Shakti Singh and Prahlad Singh, who were instrumental in nabbing the culprits. She said both have demonstrated exemplary courage. Rajsamand MP Diya Kumari also visited the house of Kanhaiya Lal and met his

fa-mily. She said the state government had proved to be a failure. “The entire nation is shocked by this incident and the killers should be penalised with nothing less than the death penalty. The MP also met the injured, Ishwar Gaur, and enquired about his wellbeing,” he added.

State BJP president Satish Poonia also visited the slain tailor’s home and met his family members.
