A new poster of Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi has been leaked online and pays tribute to the valiant queen on her 160th death anniversary.
The official Instagram account of Kangana Ranaut shared the new poster and wrote, “Remembering one of the bravest women that ever lived, #RaniLaxmiBai #Repost if you can’t wait to witness her epic story on screen #KanganaRanaut as #Manikarnika. #deathanniversary #tribute #martyr #Queen #warrior #history.”
Manikarnika was born in Varanasi in 1828 into a family of Maharashtrian Brahmins. She took the name of Lakshmi Bai after tying the knot with Jhansi king Raja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar. The king died without a biological heir but the couple adopted a six-year-old boy from his extended family a few weeks prior to his death.
Rani Lakshmibai was a fierce warrior and turned out to be one of the leading figures of the first war of independence of 1857. Some fans also shared pictures of all actors who have portrayed Rani Lakshmibai onscreen:
Initially slated for an April release, Manikarnika is now expected to come out in August. The film is directed by Krish and KV Vijayendra Prasad has written the script. Kangana plays the titular role in the film, which also stars Sonu Sood and Ankita Lokhande in pivotal roles
Producer Kamal Jain also took to Twitter to pay his tribute to Rani Lakshmibai. “Our Salute to Manikarnika - The Queen of Jhansi who fell today to rise as one of the tallest Hero, our country has ever known ..@KanganaFanClub;@prasoonjoshi_ @Shankar_Live @DirKrish @EhsaanNoorani @loy_mendonsa @anky1912 @SonuSood,” he wrote.

On the work front, Kangana is currently shooting in London for Mental Hai Kya in which she will be seen alongside Rajkummar Rao. After she completes some pending patchwork for Manikarnika, she will begin work on Ashwini Iyer Tiwary’s next where she will be seen as a kabbadi player.
