South Korean actress Kang Soo-Yeon has died at the age of 55 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The star, who featured on a number of productions in the 1980s and 1990s on film and TV, was admitted to hospital on Thursday in Seoul after being found unconscious at home.
She died two days later in hospital, according to Soompi.
According to the publication, the actress was found unresponsive on Thursday and never regained consciousness.
She passed away surrounded by family members on Saturday.
Kang was set to return to the screens later this year with the release of Netflix film Jung_E, a sci-fi film which takes place in a dystopian future in which Earth is no longer habitable, although small groups survive in shelters.
Kang plays the part of a scientist who is tasked with creating a robotic replica of a legendary mercenary featuring cloned version of her brain.
She rose to fame in the '80s and became a success on the international film festival scene, winning best actress at the Venice International Film Festival in 1986 for her part in The Surrogate Woman.
Her award saw her become the first Korean woman to win a major film festival award.
In 1989 she won the best actress award at the Moscow International Film Festival for her part in Come Come Come Upward.
Recently, she'd been less active in the industry, with her last project before Jung_E being a short film called Juri which was released in 2013.
Following the news of her death, fans took to social media to pay their respects to the star.
One user wrote: "RIP Kang Soo-yeon.
"Met her just once when I had a movie scene with her in which I had a whole five lines. She was very… patient."
Another said: "RIP Actress Kang Soo-yeon. Not only was she an internationally renowned, accomplished actress, but she also was the beacon of courage and hope for many in the Korean film industry. She will be sorely missed."
And a third penned: "Terribly saddened to learn that pioneering actress Kang Soo-yeon passed away today, 2 days after a sudden cerebral haemorrhage. She was only 55 and recently filmed her screen comeback JUNG-E, her first film role in 11 years and now sadly her last."
