Kane Wilson sets sights on Bristol City ambitions with emphasis to entertain supporters

Bristol City new boy Kane Wilson is ready to take the Championship by the scruff of the neck by replicataing his form last season and wants to get supporters on the edge of their seats by showing off his attacking quality.

The hugely talented 22-year-old cut short his family holiday to complete his three-year at the Robins with Nigel Pearson's summer transfer strategy in full flow.

Wilson arrives at Ashton Gate with a growing reputation as one of the best wing-backs outside of the Premier League after he was crowned League Two's Player of the Season at Forest Green.

He notched 13 assists as his side finished at the summit of the table, playing 45 league matches and earning the attention of Championship scouts up and down the country.

Wilson could have easily bided his time and waited for an influx of offers on the table before making a final decision on his next club but he showed his eagerness to become a Robin by getting his future sorted in a swift fashion so he can give himself the best possible opportunity hitting the ground running next season.

Speaking in his first interview with the club, Wilson's professionalism and level-headedness came to the fore as he shared his ambition to get the fans on their feet.

He said: "I'm over the moon, it's something I'm really looking forward to and it's always been a dream to play in front of fans of that size and that many of them in one place and hopefully I can get them cheering and shouting as well as the rest of the team and give them something to be proud of.

"I've been up the famous roof, it was brilliant to finally get up there. A lot of the fans that I've seen pop up on Twitter and Instagram talk about the famous roof and it was nice to get up there. When I actually went and had a look around the stadium it was the first time I've been there and it's some place and somewhere I hope I can entertain the City fans.

"It was important for me to come back from the family holiday, only for the day hopefully as long as I pass these fitness tests," he added with a chuckle.

"It was important to get that over the line and secure my future early in the window because I do want to get focused, I want to get a good pre-season under my belt and going into a league which I'm not experienced, I want to be ready get a feel for the team and kick on.

"I'm extremely excited, it was a really good season last year and Forest Green were great. It was a season where we went up as champions and a feeling that I hope to imitate here and hope to do on a bigger scale in the Championship."

Former boss Rob Edwards handed Wilson the attacking freedom at wing-back last season and he flourished in that position although the Birmingham-born defender admitted he's versatile across pitch including on the opposite flank.

He added: "I've played the last two or three seasons at wing-back, it's a position that I love but I can also play in a few positions.

"Winger, right-back, on both sides. I'm a player that likes to get the ball, dribble with it, try and create - help the team score goals and I also enjoy defending. I love getting back as much as I do going forward and trying to work my hardest every game.

"I know fans buy into that and I know as long as I do that hopefully, they'll take a liking."

Alongside the talks with manager Nigel Pearson and geographical location, in which Wilson currently resides with his family in the village of Tetbury just 30 miles down the road from Ashton Gate, he also confirmed the "world class" facilities that the High Performance Centre were an integral part to finalising his decision.

"The facilities are world class, it's something I dreamed of working day in and day out at and it's somewhere I can definitely improve and strive - it's a dream job how can I not like coming into a place like this for a club like this and try to improve and get better?

"I'm only 22 and I very much doubt that I'm the best version of myself right now so hopefully I can improve here and these facilities can give me one, two or three more per cent on my game which will only help and impact my performances on the pitch."
